Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a transfer switch and an interlock kit?
A transfer switch is a separate sub-panel that powers specific, pre-selected circuits during an outage. An interlock kit is a mechanical plate installed on your main panel that allows you to power any circuit in your home, up to the generator's capacity, while preventing the main breaker and generator breaker from being on simultaneously.
Why can't I just plug my generator directly into a wall outlet?
Plugging a generator directly into a wall outlet (known as 'backfeeding') is incredibly dangerous and illegal. It can electrocute utility workers repairing power lines and can destroy your home's wiring and appliances. A transfer switch or interlock physically disconnects your home from the grid while the generator is running.
Do you supply the generators?
We specialize in the electrical installation (the transfer switch, interlock, and inlet box) that allows you to connect a portable generator. We do not sell the portable generators themselves, but we can advise you on what size generator you will need based on your home's load.
